Young Performers Winter Workshops
Three-day intensive workshops for kids and teens during the winter school break.

CHILD?S PLAY (ages 3-6)
Journey through the world of drama with your child and bring stories and fables to life. Explore the wonder of storytelling while sharing the magic of theatre with your child. Registration for this workshop includes one spot for a parent or guardian per child.
POLAR ADVENTURE (ages 7-9)
Students in Polar Adventure will cultivate their imagination and collaboration skills by creating and performing their own made-up arctic action dilemma complete with polar bears, icebergs, snow people, and penguins.
STAGE FREEZE (ages 10-12)
Relieve stage fright by improvising worst - case scenarios to share with others. Students in Stage Freeze will explore techniques for auditioning and performing to the best of their abilities. Participants will also gain practical skills in overcoming anxiety with breathing and stretching exercises.

CREATING CHARACTERS (ages 12-14)
Take your acting to the next level. Learn how to create all kinds of characters from superheroes to cheerleaders. Scenes and monologues from contemporary plays will be used to explore how to step into someone else's shoes and see the world from their point of view.
AUDITIONING (ages 15-18)
Prepare yourself to get the part by learning to audition with confidence. Improve your cold reading skills while developing a dynamic monologue.
PLAYWRITING CLINIC (ages 15-18)
Young writers in this clinic will work together to develop their own 10-minute plays. Participants will learn about dramatic structure, participate in readings of each other?s scripts, and learn how to give and receive constructive feedback in a collaborative playwriting workshop. Participants in this class are expected to arrive with a first draft of an original 10-minute play for development in the class. Plays that receive attention in this clinic are still eligible to submit to the Houston Young Playwrights Exchange.
