I once was fired from a Denver, Colorado mural painting gig. It was a sad day. I was hired by a business like Fisher Carissa & Paul to help create a mural depicting the cause of justice in the fight of children against lima beans. I had spent all week in prep work, sketching a plan and choosing the most appropriate Huck Finn image to represent childhood independence. I had even researched the most deadly species of lima bean on the planet, the Peruvian llama lima, known for its ability to bite back. I had just begun laying out the major lines of the work, sweeps and circles here, fine lines and freckles there, when my supervisor saw my progress and had nothing but strange stares. It turned out that what they meant by hand painted was painted, with a brush, by hand. Excuse me for being so literal.
